ChatGPT shopping research and discount checks

A shopping shortlist helps you choose. Before you buy, check the exact listing and the amount you will pay at the store.

ChatGPT shopping research can help you explore products and narrow a choice. Once you have a shortlist, there is another decision to make: which exact listing should you buy, from which store, and at what final price?

Use the shortlist as a starting point for these checks.

Describe the decision you need help making

Give ChatGPT your budget, country and essential requirements. Explain what would rule a product out. A request for “headphones” leaves much more room for a mismatch than one that specifies fit, intended use and a maximum price.

For example:

Help me choose over-ear headphones for working in a shared office. My budget is $200 and I am buying in the United States. Compare comfort, noise cancellation and the product variants. Link to the sources for important specifications and leave missing details unknown.

As the conversation narrows your choice, preserve those requirements. A cheaper suggestion is not a useful substitute if it drops the feature you needed most.

Open the exact retailer listing

Check the model, size, color, quantity and condition. A headline price may refer to a different variant or a refurbished item. Confirm the seller as well as the website hosting the listing.

Read delivery and return information before deciding that two offers are comparable. If the assistant could not find a detail, check it directly rather than treating an empty table cell as approval.

Ask for discount information separately

Keep the product choice clear while investigating an offer:

For this exact product at [store], look for published discount information. Give the source, eligibility conditions and expiry if stated. Do not guess a code or describe it as checkout-tested unless it was tested for this cart.

If you have Passt installed, you can request GenesisPay Catalog, its directory name, for a catalog lookup. It may supply published discount information with matching results. Coverage is limited, and the absence of a code in a result does not establish that a store has no promotions elsewhere.

Passt is a separate connector. Adding it does not replace or change ChatGPT's built-in shopping research, and a shopping-research answer does not necessarily use it. Ask which source provided each result.

Compare the amount you will actually pay

At the store, check the price of the selected variant, enter an eligible code and read the order total. Include delivery, tax and any recurring commitment before comparing offers.

Here is a hypothetical example. A $100 item with a 10% discount and $15 shipping costs $105 before tax. The same item for $98 with free shipping costs less before tax, despite having no coupon. Use the amounts from your actual cart rather than assuming the discount headline identifies the cheaper offer.

If the assistant compares listings in different currencies, ask it to keep the original prices visible. The amount charged can also depend on the payment method and conversion applied at checkout.

Keep control of the purchase

Passt is read-only: it does not apply a code, place an order or pay for you. Follow the store link and confirm the final details there. Some links supplied through Passt are marked affiliate links, from which GenesisPay may earn a commission.

If a product is unavailable or an offer fails, return to the brief and compare another suitable option. Do not let the effort already spent researching turn a weak offer into a purchase you would otherwise skip.

For a catalog lookup within your next conversation, add Passt to ChatGPT. Ask for a specific item, read the source and check the final price at the store.
